Napanoch Passive House

This 1,000 sq. ft. writer’s getaway and guest cabin is our most recently completed Passive House project, and articulates our FLEXHOUSE design principles for smaller scale structures.

Looking down on farmland from the edge of the woods on a high elevation perch in the southern Catskill Mountains, this cabin is the ideal retreat from the owners’ busy professional lives in New York City. With a compact plan that finds expansiveness through flexible living spaces and abundant glass, the super-energy-efficient home is also Net-Zero ready for future installation of a rooftop solar array. The interior is a balance of crisp modern lines and rustic reclaimed timber floors. While focusing the occupant’s view outward through the southern glazing, it allows the feeling of immersion in nature while still holding all the comforts of a well insulated and air-tight home.
