Stephanie Bassler and Peter Reynolds, co-founders of North River Architecture & Planning, PC, have worked together since 2006. During their collaboration at North River and earlier at Ashokan Architecture and Planning, their many and diverse completed design projects in the Hudson Valley and beyond are distinguished by their energy efficiency, and the their sensitivity to local context and to the community and client’s highest achievable goals.
As Principal of NRAP, Stephanie pursues projects with a strong best-practices approach to sustainability, efficiency, and integration of whole systems design. As Senior Designer, Peter draws on over 25 years of experience with architectural, interior design, master planning, and space planning services that integrate North River’s design values with clients’ diverse needs over a broad range of project scales.
As a firm, North River’s goals aim for a balance of local context, commitment to sustainable design practice, and emerging technologies while serving the practical needs of completing client projects on time and on budget.

Stephanie incorporated NRAP in 2009 after working in New York City for more than ten years, and in the Hudson Valley for five years. Prior to NRAP, Stephanie worked for Ashokan Architecture & Planning, where as Project Architect she led design teams on numerous residential, commercial, institutional and master-planning projects. Before moving to the Hudson Valley, she had extensive experience in NYC, playing a key role on projects as varied as Mixon Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Palm Beach Opera House, the Blue Mountain Middle School, Rockland County Courthouse, and the Church and Friary of St. Francis of Assisi in New York. Stephanie is an expert in sustainable and green building design, with particular interest in the challenges of adaptive re-use of historic structures, and in emerging technologies for energy-efficient building construction. Stephanie received her Bachelor of Architecture from Rice University in 1994. She is licensed to practice architecture in the State of New York, is a LEED Accredited Professional, and is a Certified Passive House Designer.
Peter W. Reynolds
Senior Designer, North River Architecture & Planning, PC
Peter has been the lead designer for a large number of significant local and community projects since 1988, including many dormitory and departmental buildings on the Bard College campus. Working closely and collaboratively with contractors, engineers and owners within a team-based approach, Peter has built a reputation for the diversity, sensitivity, and affordability of his projects. First as founder of Reynolds Design Associates, then as co-founder and Senior Designer for Ashokan Architecture & Planning, and now with North River Architecture & Planning, Peter has produced distinguished residences, commercial offices and institutional projects throughout the New York region, as well as New England, California, and the Caribbean. Peter earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College in 1978.
